[LISTEN] ‘No More Time’ By Featured Artist: LeahAnn “Lafemmebear” Mitchell

We, As Ourselves is partnering with the Center for Cultural Power, @Culturestrike, to work with Black women and femme survivors and artists to honor their stories and work. 

Get to know LeahAnn, our first featured artist!

LeahAnn “Lafemmebear” Mitchell is an independent music producer, sound engineer, and artist whose words and work have been featured in The Guardian, GLAAD, Queerty, Out.Tv Euro, Autostraddle, Billboard, and MTV. She has collaborated with Alice Sheppard and Disability Danceworks on their piece WIRED, as well as with PEG Records to co-write and produce the first mainstream Pop-R&B single “What You’re Looking For” for Peppermint of Rupaul’s Drag Race fame. She also produced, arranged, and sang on a new version of Sounds of Blackness’s “Optimistic” with Peppermint and Mila Jam in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Lafemmebear’s latest project “My Blaq Feels” is available on Bandcamp, and premiered live at Stanford University’s Black Love 2021 concert, where she opened for Chika. Additionally, she produced three tracks on Def Sound’s new album HUEM_N, also available on Bandcamp. Def Sound and Lafemmebear’s collaborative single “2Much” is currently a featured part of The Black Index, an exhibit curated by Bridget R. Cooks.

She is honored to be a part of such a beautiful community of Black women and femmes, and hopes the seeds she sows in her art will bear fruit to feed everyone.
